According to a man who thinks he's a so-called transgender woman, the archbishop of Chicago is listening to him instead of his faithful priest, Fr. Paul Kalchik, the pastor of Resurrection Parish.
The biological man, who goes by the name Alexandra Whitney, started a Twitter storm over the weekend claiming to have the cardinal's ear in having Fr. Kalchik ousted:
"I called and spoke to Cardinal Blase Cupich, Archbishop of the Diocese of Chicago. I shared my concerns with Cardinal Cupich about Fr. Kalchik's attacks on LGBTQ Catholics and how this priest is harming the Body of Christ."
Whitney added, "Cardinal Cupich shared my concerns and advised me that the Diocese takes Fr. Kalchik's recent activities very seriously and that Cupich was weighing his decision on how to move forward very carefully."
The careful move against Fr. Kalchik involved sending two priests to verbally abuse the pastor and to even level a veiled threat against him: "What would happen if you were dead?" They also threatened to have Kalchik forcefully sent away to St. Luke Institute, the notorious psychiatric center for priests. This caused Kalchik to flee the parish and go into hiding.
Whitney got this part wrong, tweeting Sunday, "Kalchik was not arrested or imprisoned. He was taken to a pastoral care rehabilitation run by the Jesuit which is approved by Pope Francis. It is an opportunity for Fr. Kalchik to meet LGBTQ Catholics and hear how they have been harmed among other things."
The man suffering from gender dysphoria claims to have been advising Cupich on such matters for years and even thanks the cardinal for taking such action against Kalchik:
"For years I have communicated with Archbishop Cupich and advised him on the concerns of transgender Catholics. I wish to announce my gratitude for the opportunity the Archbishop gave me to speak freely with him and the speed with which he removed Fr. Kalchik. Thank you, Cardinal."
Because Cupich has acted in accord with such people as Whitney and used thug tactics against a faithful priest like Kalchik, he's now experiencing intense blowback from outraged Catholics. A petition launched by Church Militant to have Cupich step down has already garnered some more than 8,000 signatures in 24 hours.
