Daily Dig for May 31 Mother Teresa Peace and war start within one’s own home. If we really want peace for the world, let us start by loving one another within our families. Sometimes it is hard for us to smile at one another. It is often difficult for the husband to smile at his wife or for the wife to smile at her husband. In order for love to be genuine, it has to be above all, a love for our neighbor. We must love those who are nearest to us, in our own family. From there, love spreads toward whoever may need us. It is easy to love those who live far away. It is not always easy to love those who live right next to us. It is easier to offer a dish of rice to meet the hunger of a needy person than to comfort the loneliness and the anguish of someone in our own home who does not feel loved. Source:  No Greater Love

DEVOTION FOR THURSDAY, MAY 31, 2018 Revelation 22:1–21 PARADISE REGAINED Some people like to skip ahead when reading a mystery in order to read the rest of the story with the end in mind. Others like to watch the game after it is over to anticipate the victory. Perhaps that is the point of the book of Revelation. It is not really “history written in advance.” It paints its picture of the end of all things in broad strokes, but clearly enough for us to know who wins! John’s final vision in this book is one of Eden restored. But this isn’t the old Eden. There is no forbidden tree and no serpent. All the ills that plagued us in the old world are healed. All that once divided heaven and earth has been removed. This involves more than seeing God’s will done on earth as it is in heaven. It is also more than heaven on earth. This new world will be better than Eden, for God will not merely walk in the garden “in the cool of the day” (Gen. 3:8). God’s dwelling will be with hum

May 31, 2018 Effective Witnesses Philippians 2:12-16 Some of the most effective witnesses are those who have gone through painful, trying circumstances. Consider how the gospel has spread in parts of the world that are poor, oppressed, and troubled. Or think of your response to the triumphant stories of former criminals, people who have suffered abuse, and religious prisoners. God’s power is manifest in man’s weakest moments. Whether believers develop into stronger witnesses as a result of difficulties depends on their response to crisis. Many people make the mistake of focusing on the will of man instead of God’s sovereignty. Then they find it impossible to believe that God will bring positive results from their pain. Those who rise above their circumstances understand that God uses every experience for good. (See  Gen. 50:20 .) To trust that principle, we must realize that any situation we face is under the authority of a kind, loving Father. Paul’s time in prison yield
