Russia Brokers Deal Keeping Iran Out of Region Bordering With Israel
Russia is doubling-down on its demand that non-Syrian forces step back from the border with Israel. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov addressed the situation in Syria on Tuesday at the international Primakov Readings Forum, an international think-tank annual summit held in Moscow. TASS Russian news agency reported his statements. “We have well-known agreements concerning the southwestern de-escalation zone,” he said. “Those agreements were concluded by Russia, the United States, and Jordan.”
Israel Has Nothing to Fear from Trump’s Plan?
Jonathan S. Tobin, editor-in-chief of the Jewish News Syndicate, argues that Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu “has nothing to worry about!” when it comes to the expected Trump plan that recognizes “Palestine” with Jerusalem as its capital, even though such a plan normally “would be fiercely opposed by the Israeli right and could potentially set off a coalition crisis.” Why is this lack of concern? Because “Palestinians will reliably say ‘no’ to any peace deal,” making it virtually certain that “Trump’s peace plan will be dead on arrival.”

Key North Korea official meets Pompeo in New York
The right-hand man to North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has met US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in New York to discuss a historic summit. Gen Kim Yong-chol dined with Mr Pompeo after flying in from China, and the two are due to meet again on Thursday. He is the most senior North Korean to visit the US in nearly 20 years.

Assad: There are no Iranian forces in Syria
Syrian President Bashar Assad has rebuffed claims of an Iranian military presence in his country, while accusing Israel of launching attacks on his territory and of propagating “lies” about its massive aerial offensive launched earlier in May. “Israel is attacking us, but we are only becoming stronger and improving our defenses even more,” he said in an interview with Russia Today. “That is the only way to stop the Israeli attacks, and we are doing that.”
U.S. to slap tariffs on steel, aluminum from EU on Thursday
Washington will announce plans to slap tariffs on EU steel and aluminum imports as early as Thursday morning, sources said, while the U.S. commerce secretary said any escalation of their trade dispute would depend on the bloc’s reaction. The two sources briefed on the matter said the decision would land before a Friday expiration deadline for exemptions to the planned tariffs.
China rejects ‘ridiculous’ U.S. accusation of South China Sea militarization
