NATO ships dock in Israel’s Haifa port ahead of joint exercises 
The British HMS Duncan and Spanish frigate Victoria, commissioned by NATO forces, docked in Israel’s Haifa port ahead of joint exercises. This is the first time that the Spanish frigate has docked in an Israeli port, the IDF’s Spokesperson’s Unit said Friday. The anchoring of the ships will include a meeting between senior naval officers and a meeting between senior NATO officers and their Israeli counterparts as well as a joint NATO-Israel naval exercise.

US President Donald Trump says “very productive talks” have been held with North Korea on reinstating the summit with leader Kim Jong-un. In a tweet, Mr Trump said the meeting could still take place on 12 June in Singapore “and if necessary will be extended beyond that date”. He cancelled the summit on Thursday, blaming the North’s “open hostility”.
Irish abortion referendum: Exit polls suggest landslide for repeal
Counting has started in the Irish abortion referendum, hours after exit polls suggested a landslide vote in favour of liberalising the law. Polls by The Irish Times and RTÉ suggested about 69% voted to repeal a part of the constitution that effectively bans terminations. One of the main anti-abortion campaigns has already conceded defeat.
Cyclone Mekunu kills girl of 12 in Oman
Cyclone Mekunu has hit southern Oman with high winds and rain, killing a 12-year-old girl and leaving three other people injured, officials say. The girl died after wind swept her against a wall, police say. State TV showed large areas of flooding in Dhofar and al-Wusta provinces, with dozens of vehicles submerged.
Subtropical Storm Alberto to strengthen over next 48 hours
Subtropical storm Alberto is moving slowly and erratically over the northwestern Caribbean Sea and is expected to strengthen gradually over the next 48 hours as it heads to the Gulf of Mexico, the U.S. National Hurricane Center (NHC) said in its latest advisory on Friday. The storm is located about 100 miles (160 km) south-south east of Cozumel, Mexico, packing maximum sustained winds of 40 mph (65 kph), the Miami-based weather forecaster said.

Chinese fighter pilots have carried out night landings on the country’s first aircraft carrier, the official China Daily reported on Saturday, the latest demonstration of military muscle as Beijing’s pushes to modernize its armed forces. Pilots flying J-15 jets landed at night on the Liaoning, the official paper said, citing a video posted by China’s navy. It said this was a complex maneuver that marked a “huge leap towards gaining full combat capability”.
