2-22-19 Lost Cause

I was leaving the church the other day when a motorcycle passed me up. The rider had one of the familiar black leather vests on depicting one of the “signature” biker club/gang logos, and it read: “Lost Cause”(at the bottom).
Of course, being a Christ follower and believer, I immediately said to myself, “aw man, no one is beyond hope of salvation in coming to Christ and inheriting eternal life, whoever they are and what they do, even those 1%ers in the biker world that we know of and hear about.” If there’s a will in a person, there’s always hope. Even a hardcore biker (and I don’t know if he was) or the vilest person has the opportunity to be saved from their sins and gain Christ.
Just believe in the one true Saviour and you will be saved. “…That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life (John 3:16).
For all to know:
The price for admission to eternal life is repentance and faith, plus nothing! Real simple. You repent from your sins and place your belief and faith in Jesus Christ.
I said a prayer for that gentleman as we should, just like anyone else we come across that we can’t probably talk to for some reason or another. I don’t know if this bumper sticker is made anymore, but the message applies to all of us who believe and know Christ as our Lord: “We aren’t perfect, just forgiven.” So so true. We are sinners like everyone else and fail God every day. But the difference is Jesus in our life, and that means hope and assurance.
One day the Lord is coming to get his bride, and if he tarries for a long while, we will die and go to glory to be with him. “Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord: (For we walk by faith, not by sight:) We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord” (2 Corinthians 5:6-8). We as true believers know where we are going, and we really desire to take as many with us as possible.
A lot of times, we aren’t a good witness, or just forget to be an example for others to notice that we have Christ in us. That’s because we aren’t perfect. Christ was the only perfect person to walk the earth, and he set an example for all of us. But we didn’t quite get it; the Apostles didn’t either. They all abandoned him while he was on the cross, except for John. “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God”(Romans 3:23).
All of us believers have lost many opportunities to say something to others, even the “lost causes” who need the Gospel. There is no one who is a “lost cause” when it comes to knowing about the Saviour who loves them. Jesus died on that Cross for all (John 3:16). Everyone has a chance to turn and believe in God, thus gaining entrance into his eternal heaven that awaits us one day.
This is a promise of what awaits us in God’s eternal kingdom; we will have these three “forevers”: “For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Ghost” (Romans 14:17). What more could you ask for?
I think the earthly modern term we use now is “eternal bliss.” That’s close, and suffices for now, but check out this verse:
1 Corinthians 2:9 “But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.” Count me in.
In closing, I could go on and on with scriptures and analogies about eternal life, heaven, peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost. By reading this article and others, there is a wealth of information on what you have to do to access that. This is an opportunity for you right now, wherever you are or whatever you’re doing, to bow your head and say a prayer for God to come into your life. It doesn’t have to be spoken theologically just right; let it come from your heart. It’s your heartfelt intent that he knows.
- Admit you’re a sinner and you have fallen short of God’s glory.
- Believe that God’s Son, Jesus, died on the cross, was placed in the tomb, and rose from the dead three days later. His shed blood paid the debt for your sins.
- Turn from your sins and place your faith and trust in Jesus alone for your salvation.
