Days after US National Security Advisor John Bolton wrapped up several days of meetings in Jerusalem, the Iranian Defense Minister paid a visit to Damascus with a large delegation. The visit is meant to show the Iran is a key ally of Damascus and any thoughts that Iran can be removed from Syria are mistaken. In recent months the US and Israel have both indicated that Iranian forces should withdraw from Syria.

Pope Francis has begged forgiveness for clerical child sex abuse and reiterated his wish to see justice served. The pontiff made the comments at the Marian shrine in Knock during the second day of an historic trip to the Republic of Ireland. He said no-one could fail to be moved by stories of those who “suffered abuse, were robbed of their innocence and left scarred by painful memories”.
Iran MPs vote to remove economy minister amid financial crisis
Iran’s parliament has voted to remove the economy minister from office as the country battles an economic crisis. Masoud Karbasian was targeted by a no-confidence vote over problems in the banking system, tax regulation and his failure to fix the economy. The move comes three weeks after Labour Minister Ali Rabiei was ousted in a similar process.
