Shishaldin Volcano, located about 58 miles southwest of Cold Bay, had a low-level eruption over the weekend.  According to the Alaska Volcano Observatory, lava effusion has paused, but the surface temperature remains elevated.  “The low-level eruption at Shishaldin Volcano continues,” said an AVO report on Sunday.

An Iran-backed militia in Iraq has vowed revenge against the U.S. after U.S. military airstrikes killed 25 militants in Iraq and Syria on Sunday.  The militia, Kataeb Hezbollah (Hezbollah Brigades) slammed the “aggression of evil American ravens” and said, “our battle with America and its mercenaries is now open to all possibilities,”

At the IEDM conference IBM Research unveiled several scientific breakthroughs, including research in nanosheet technology, Phase-Change Memory, Electro-Chemical Random-Access Memory, and new algorithms to improve the accuracy of AI predictions. Turkey is allied with Libya’s UN-backed government, which is based in the capital, Tripoli. Thousands of people have fled to a beach in Victoria, Australia, to escape bushfires racing towards the coast.
