Mueller Madness: The media pundits who got it most wrong
Special counsel Robert Mueller has definitively put to rest the collusion theory of President Trump’s election. The president’s haters no doubt wish to memory-hole collusion and move on to the next anti-Trump theory. But not so fast: We want to laurel the punditry “champion” — the one who peddled the most nonsensical nonsense, the wildest inanities, the weirdest theories and unsubstantiated stories. Pick your brackets — no, not for March Madness. This is Collusion Madness!
The Pentagon Wants to Make an Army of Virus-Spreading Insects. Scientists Are Concerned.
Can a task force of insects carrying genetically modified viruses save America’s farms — or are they an uncontrollable bioweapon in the making? This is the debate swirling around a controversial new Pentagon research project called “Insect Allies.” Funded by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), the project involves using gene-editing techniques like CRISPR to infect insects with modified viruses that could help make America’s crops more resilient. If a cornfield were hit by an unexpected drought or suddenly exposed to a pathogen, for example, Insect Allies might deploy an army of aphids carrying a genetically modified virus to slow the corn plant’s growth rate. Members of the scientific community are skeptical.
Defying Laws of Nature, Scientists Force ‘Supercrystals’ Into Existence
A team of physicists used lasers to create “supercrystals,” even as the structures fought to not exist at all.
It was the sort of structure that might fleetingly exist as a material shifts from one state to the next, but not one you’d expect to persist long term. And yet, the researchers showed, this supercrystal survived under warm, room-temperature conditions.
Beneath Earth’s Crust, Hot Rocks Creep As Oceanic Plates Plunge Toward the Core
New research finds that the lower mantle, located between 410 miles and 621 miles (660 and 1,000 kilometers) beneath the Earth’s crust, is more dynamic than previously believed. This deep layer flows and deforms busily at subduction zones, where slabs of oceanic crust plunge down through the Earth’s layers like sinking ships.
Pentagon Wants to Test A Space-Based Weapon in 2023
Defense officials want to test a neutral particle-beam in orbit in fiscal 2023 as part of a ramped-up effort to explore various types of space-based weaponry. They’ve asked for $304 million in the 2020 budget to develop such beams, more powerful lasers, and other new tech for next-generation missile defense. So the Pentagon is undertaking two studies. The first is a $15 million exploration of whether satellites outfitted with lasers might be able to disable enemy missiles coming off the launch pad. Defense officials have said previously that these lasers would need to be in the megawatt class. They expect to finish the study within six months.
DeepMind and Google: the battle to control artificial intelligence
Judging by the titles of talks, the attendees at the conference tended towards the messianic: “The Mind and How to Build One”; “AI against Aging”; “Replacing Our Bodies”; “Modifying the Boundary between Life and Death”. Hassabis’s speech, by contrast, appeared underwhelming: “A Systems Neuroscience Approach to Building AGI”.
Democrats fail to override Trump veto on border funding
The Democratic-controlled House fell short Tuesday in its effort to override President Donald Trump’s first veto, handing him a victory in his drive to spend billions more for constructing barriers along the Southwest border than Congress has approved. Lawmakers voted 248-181 in favor of overturning his veto, mostly along party lines, but that was 38 votes shy of the number needed for the required two-thirds majority.

Socialism is rooted in godlessness
It’s as simple as that; a country that turns from God opens wide the door for government. The Founding Fathers knew this and that’s why they made clear that this new nation, this new experiment, would be based upon a concept put forth in the Declaration of Independence that all are created equal, “endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights,” and that governments are only instituted to “secure these rights” — not to bestow.
