Dishonest Attack against Pro-Trump Evangelicals :: By Breanna Claussen

Canadian news program “W5” released a disgraceful report this week targeting Trump-supporting Christians in an attempt to smear them as more “devoted” to being “true believers of Donald Trump than living according to God’s Word.
In the episode titled “Unholy Alliance,” the CTV program ridiculed Evangelicals and sought to paint them as crazed, and too blinded in their worship of the President to see his “many moral controversies,” as they put it.
“After four years, think about everything that’s happened, the porn star hush-money payments, the crude language, the some sixteen thousand lies, low morals, being impeached, why do they stand by him?” the host Joy Malbon asks.
A former Pastor interviewed in the episode, Stephen Mansfield, claims the answer is that Christians believe Donald Trump is their Cyrus. A narrative the broadcast says was fueled by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu after Trump’s “enormous gift” of moving the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem.
“Trump likes that Biblical comparison,” the program alleged.
“During the 2016 election, believe it or not, the idea that Donald Trump was a Cyrus: an immoral man, a crass man, a man with a very spotty history in almost every way, certainly ethically, but nevertheless a man that God wanted to use,” Mansfield argued, “that has become a basis for excusing him. And that’s why you’ll see evangelical leaders almost rush to the camera every time to excuse the pornstar, excuse the lies, excuse the divorces, excuse the crassness in business and crassness in language and so on.”
The program then goes on to attack the 45th President’s historic attendance at the March for Life, smearing the event as an “Anti-Abortion rally” and seemingly suggesting it to be dangerous:
“Past Presidents were kept out of town on this rally day,” they told their audience, “keeping distance from one of the country’s most controversial issues. Instead, this President leaned in heavily to fire up his base.”
They pulled everything from their propaganda quiver and fired it at Donald J. Trump, attempting to besmirch him. They even went through the Catholic “seven deadly sins” in an effort to show the President’s “low moral values” to Evangelicals! This was a desperate segment fueled by heavily chopped footage, to say the least.
It didn’t stop there, the episode then set its sights on mocking the Rapture of the Church! Claiming that Christian’s believe Donald Trump will be the one to bring about the End-Times:
“Get ready for the end of time. That apocalyptic world view believes that Trump could spark a war, ending earth as we know it and bringing about the Rapture when Jesus returns to save His followers,” the host scoffs.
The CTV Program also included an interview with the disgraced former editor of Christianity Today, Mark Galli.
“[Trump’s] policies, for the most part, are traditionally Republican and evangelicals, for the most part, have identified with the Republican Party very strongly. So in that sense, it wasn’t a surprise that so many voted for Trump,” Galli said in the interview. “What’s been the surprise is that there is a wing of that support that is so enthusiastic, they treat Donald Trump as if he’s a political Messiah.”
Mark Galli came under fire last December after he used his retirement to do a political “hit and run” article attacking Donald Trump.
“For the first four years of Trump’s presidency, Gally held his tongue as editor of Christianity Today, trying to take the high road. That is until Trump’s impeachment hearings,” the program told its viewers. “Gally said it loudly in his last editorial before retiring from his post. He called Trump’s Twitter feed a ‘near-perfect example of a human being morally lost and confused’”…” and that this President has dumbed down the idea of morality in his administration.”
“We’re all made in the image of God, we all have human dignity, and we ought to treat one another with respect. The fact that over and over and over again in his tweets, he fails to do this,” Galli said, attempting to justify the article. “The Bible has some of the strongest language for people who misuse the tongue and denigrate and hold others in contempt. It’s a very serious moral issue from a Christian point of view. Every one of us does it inadvertently or sometimes deliberately, but we usually apologize. But Trump never apologizes, and he just doubles down and does it almost every day. So that’s what I mean by dumbing down,” the ex-editor said.
One such Evangelical that responded to Galli back in December was Franklin Graham, the son of Billy Graham, who was the Founder of Christianity Today. Rev. Graham made clear in no uncertain terms that his father would, in fact, “be very disappointed” in the article.
Christianity Today released an editorial stating that President Trump should be removed from office—and they invoked my father’s name (I suppose to try to bring legitimacy to their statements), so I feel it is important for me to respond. Yes, my father Billy Graham founded Christianity Today; but no, he would not agree with their opinion piece. In fact, he would be very disappointed. I have not previously shared who my father voted for in the past election, but because of this article, I feel it is necessary to share it now. My father knew Donald Trump, he believed in Donald Trump, and he voted for Donald Trump. He believed that Donald J. Trump was the man for this hour in history for our nation.
Since then, Christianity Today, or “Christianity Astray,” as some are calling it, has continued its attacks on the US President, in a bid, just like W5, to paint him as “Profoundly Immoral.”
Franklin Graham responded to those comments as well, explaining that their calling of Trump as “Profoundly Immoral” is profoundly unBiblical:
Liberal-leaning Christianity Today said that President Donald J. Trump should be removed from office because he is “profoundly immoral.”
Really? Profoundly? What does that even mean? Is profoundly immoral worse than mildly immoral, or slightly immoral, or worse than just being plain old immoral? It’s like when someone tells a lie—does it matter if it was an all-out lie or just a little white lie? No, both are lies. The Bible says all have sinned. That’s clear. The Bible doesn’t call us big sinners or little sinners; we’re just all sinners. The most important question is whether we have been forgiven.
Speaking as someone who is profoundly immoral, I’m just thankful that I have been PROFOUNDLY FORGIVEN.
Like many of you, I’m sure you can agree watching television shows like W5 attack the duly elected President of the United Stated so relentlessly, and so dishonestly, is a frustrating task.
I am, however, shocked when I think about the times we’re living in, and how a program like this displays those times so clearly.
They demonstrated the characteristics of those of the final generation described in 2 Timothy 3:1-5, being “False accusers,” “Blasphemers,” “Despisers of those that are good,” and having a “Loss of Natural affection” as demonstrated by their stance on advocating for the murder of the unborn.
I think of 2 Timothy 3:8-9, which states: “Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith. But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as their’s also was.”
We also see in 2 Timothy 3:12-13 that in the last days, “all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution. But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.”
They certainly demonstrated the lateness of the hour in their mocking of those who are longing and waiting for the Rapture. The Bible Prophesied this scoffing would occur in 2 Peter 3:3-4.
I would also like to take a moment, in short, to mention why it is that evangelical Christians are so overwhelming in support of Donald Trump.
He is called the Most Pro-Life President in American History: The Bible is clear that a child in the womb is just as much a human life as any other and rightfully deserves to be protected (Psalm 139:13-16Jeremiah 1:5Exodus 21:22-25). The Word of God also explains in (Psalm 106:38-39) that this killing of innocent children pollutes our land with blood. Which, frankly, is the real pollution we ought to be worrying about.
He is called the most Pro-Israel President in American History: The Bible not only commands that we support the nation of Israel, but the Lord tells us that if our country blesses Israel that God will bless our nation (Genesis 12:3).
Just taking into consideration the two examples listed above, notice that the Bible not only shows clearly what our stance on these things should be but the Bible also clearly warns that God’s blessing or cursing of our land is determined by these things.
Not to mention, how this President has defended Religious freedom, which has been increasingly under siege and continues to be under attack throughout the world including in Canada.
I cannot explain why it is that a Canadian network funded by the Trudeau Liberal Government, would think that it is appropriate to release a program like this during an election year. Nor am I certain of whom they believe they are influencing. But I am certainly not shocked.
I would like to leave you with a Bible verse that seems to be continually on my mind as I follow world news specifically relating to Politics. It is because of this verse that I no longer believe it is possible for Christians to be indifferent when it comes to political issues. We are dealing with good and evil. There is no longer a middle ground.
Isaiah 5:20 KJV – “Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!”
