One can hope With the closing of schools in March over the pandemic, parents have once again become their children’s teachers. They have had an opportunity to see firsthand what their children are learning – and not learning – and many are balking at sending them back to the public classroom. 7-31-20 Daily Prayer

Daily Prayer for July 31 Christoph Friedrich Blumhardt Many, Lord, are asking, "Who will bring us prosperity?" Let the light of your face shine on us. Psalm 4:6, NIV Lord our God,  with all our hearts we come before your countenance. Our hearts shall always be in your presence, asking, longing, and believing that you will guide our affairs aright. Protect us, for you are our God and Father. Protect all who are in danger or who must go into danger. Make known your great love and your living presence to the hearts of the dying. Draw our hearts together so that we may have community in you, our faith and hope set on you alone. Protect us during the night, and help us to be at peace about all our concerns because they are in your hands. Every concern of every person is in your hands. We ourselves are in your hands, Lord God, our Father, and there we want to remain. Your hands can heal and restore everything. Praised be your name! Amen.

7-31-20 Daily Dig

Daily Dig for July 31 Hermas You have become old in spirit and are already dying, and have no strength anymore. You have become enervated by the affairs of daily life and fallen into lethargy just like old men who, once they have given up all hope of regaining strength, expect nothing but to fall asleep. But if you repent, you will become quite new again. Source:  The Early Christians

COURAGE FOR THE QUEST Friday, July 31, 2020 |  I Peter 2:4–12   AT HOME WITH HIM As we end our journey through Joshua, it is important to remember how we fit in the bigger picture. It’s easy to dismiss the people and events of this book as long ago and far away. But the implications of their quest shed significant insight into our daily walk with Jesus. In today’s text, Peter communicates something that was brand new to the entire world. Previously, the Israelites were the only ones specifically chosen by God. Unless there were special circumstances, for instance, Rahab and her family, the story of God and humanity was mostly about Yahweh and the Israelites. However, because of Jesus, the true living Stone (v. 4), non-Jews are able to be part of God’s family, too. The Israelites were God’s chosen people whom He was making into a nation. They would always have a special place in God’s heart. But because of Jesus, Peter proclai
