Daily Prayer for January 31 CHRISTOPH FRIEDRICH BLUMHARDT For Zion’s sake I will not keep silent, for Jerusalem’s sake I will not remain quiet, till her righteousness shines out like the dawn, her salvation like a blazing torch. Isaiah 62:1, NIV Lord our God, we worship you, for you come to meet us everywhere and you reveal your glory on our earth. May we become worthy of you, people who can represent you with our whole being. Give us the strength to endure, even through struggles and temptations. 1-31-23 Today in the Word

The God Who Hears Tuesday, January 31 | 1 John 5:13–17 Our anxieties about prayer usually spring from the same question. It is not a question of what God can do. It is a question of what God will do. The fear that God will ignore us is at the heart of most of our concerns about prayer. We do not want to be ignored or our desires to be dismissed. We are afraid that in the end, despite what Jesus told us, God will indeed prove to be like the unjust judge of the parable (Luke 18:1–9). In contrast to this fear, John makes two astonishing and related promises in today’s passage. John says that God hears us if we ask anything that agrees with His will. If God hears us, our request will be granted (v. 14). This confidence motivates us to approach God boldly in prayer. Yet we know from experience that this cannot be a guarantee that we will always get what we want when we pray. “Prayer is not a machine,” C. S. Lewis observed. “It is not magic. It is not advice offered to God.” The key to w...

1-31-23 Daily Dig

Lightening Others’ Burdens DIETRICH BONHOEFFER Just as Christ bears our burdens, so also are we to bear the burdens of our brothers and sisters. The law of Christ which must be fulfilled is the bearing of the cross. The burden of my brother or sister that I am to bear is not only that person’s external fate, that person’s character and personality, but is in a very real sense that person’s sin. I cannot bear it except by forgiving it, in the power of the cross of Christ in which I, too, have a portion. Self-denial means seeing only Christ, who goes ahead of us, and no longer the path that is too difficult for us.

Go to the Ant God tells us in His Word that we can learn much from His creation. January 31, 2023 Proverbs 6:6-8 God is a masterful Creator. He has integrated many of His principles into the fabric of nature so we can learn about Him by observing His handiwork (Ps. 19:1-6). If you desire wisdom, look outdoors for His lessons. Of course, the outdoors sometimes comes inside. If you have ever battled ants in your kitchen or pantry, wisdom probably isn’t the first trait you’d attribute to them—you would likely choose a description more like determination. But to the lazy person, God points out these tiny creatures as an example of wise living. Simply consider how many characteristics of the ant would be smart for people to adopt: preparation, cooperation, perseverance, diligence, unity, and the list goes on. So, interacting with righteous men isn’t the only way to acquire wisdom. God also wants us to observe the lowly ant, which He designed to work in community. There’s much to learn ...

1-31-23 The Felonious Fabric of Fraudulent Factions

The Felonious Fabric of Fraudulent Factions :: By Gene Lawley Published on: January 28, 2023 by RR10 Category:Gene Lawley, General Articles Ever since Lucifer, having been created with the ability to choose, rebelled against the God of the Universe, he has been at work to replace God on His throne. This is told in Ezekiel 28 and is unmistakably dealing with God’s creation of a highly placed angel over the hosts of heaven. As a reminder, look at Isaiah the prophet’s account of his intent: “How you are fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How you are cut down to the ground, you who weakened the nations! “For you have said in your heart: ‘I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; I will also sit on the mount of the congregation on the farthest sides of the north; I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I will be like the Most High.’ Yet you shall be brought down to Sheol, to the lowest depths of the Pit” (Isaiah 14:12-15). Both Danie...

1-31-23 Letter of Encouragement to All Believers

Letter of Encouragement to All Believers :: By Holly Spate Published on: July 5, 2022 by Admin10 Category:General Articles, Holly Spate Dear Brother in Christ and Dear Sister in Christ, With all that’s going on in the world today, I felt it important to pause and take a minute to write this letter of encouragement that God put on my heart. So please, take a moment to find a quiet spot to sit and read. Let this letter be a gift that reminds you how incredibly valuable you are in God’s sight and what a wonderful, perfect, loving God your heavenly Father is. My hope is that you will pass this letter along. As brothers and sisters in Christ, we need to encourage and remind other believers to pause, to praise, and to remember how very much God loves His children. May our hearts share with others the only hope that can be found in this life. Dear Friend, From the beginning of time, God knew you, loved you, and had a plan and a purpose for you. God’s love for you is never-ending… always co...

1-31-23 Do You Know How to Lead Someone to Salvation?

Do You Know How to Lead Someone to Salvation? :: By Keith Watts Published on: July 5, 2022 by Admin10 Category:General Articles The title of this message is, Has Anyone Taken You Down the Roman’s Road? The link is below. https://youtu.be/T81VShapCoM Have you ever shown someone from the Bible how to be saved? How many have you led to Jesus Christ for salvation? Time is running out for you to learn how to do this. One day soon, you will not be able to lead someone to Christ because you will be in heaven with Jesus. This message is a salvation message, but it is for the Christian to write these verses down and start leading people to Christ. These are the verses that I use to lead someone to Christ. While I deal with the person, the Holy Spirit will bring into remembrance other verses to quote (like John 3:16 and Ephesians 2:8-9). Let us get into the message. The Roman Empire was known for building roads. This enabled the armies to get to the battlefield so much faster. The first one w...

1-31-23 Study in Hebrews: The Promise of Rest

Study in Hebrews: The Promise of Rest :: By Sean Gooding Published on: July 5, 2022 by Admin10 Category:General Articles Hebrews 4:1-10 “Therefore, since a promise remains of entering His rest, let us fear lest any of you seem to have come short of it. 2 For indeed the gospel was preached to us as well as to them; but the word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it. 3 For we who have believed do enter that rest, as He has said ‘So I swore in My wrath, They shall not enter My rest,’ although the works were finished from the foundation of the world. 4 For He has spoken in a certain place of the seventh day in this way: ‘And God rested on the seventh day from all His works’; 5 and again in this place: ‘They shall not enter My rest.’ 6 Since therefore it remains that some must enter it, and those to whom it was first preached did not enter because of disobedience, 7 again He designates a certain day, saying in David, ‘Today,’ after such a l...

1-31-23 Rise Up, O Men of God!

Rise Up, O Men of God! :: By Paul J. Scharf Published on: July 5, 2022 by Admin10 Category:General Articles It has often been noted that—tempted as we as preachers might be—we can never preach to the crowd that is not present. This column might be a bit unusual, then, as one might say that it is presented for the person who will never read it. At least in the case of the written word, however, it can be posted for all to see—and share. Let me also preface my remarks by stating up front that many of the best responses we have seen in our service with The Friends of Israel Gospel Ministry have been in small churches—sometimes to such an extent that it is almost beyond comprehension. I will say it again—small churches (speaking of churches in the broadest sense) remain the backbone of this nation. Many of them are located in small towns or even out in the country—but they are, in a very real sense, still holding the whole country together. Speaking more narrowly, in terms of the true bo...

Calling for Prayer Monday, January 30 | James 5:13–18 When you are sick, you call the doctor. When your pipes spring a leak, you call the plumber. If your lights don’t work, you call the electrician. Who do you call when you have spiritual needs? In James 5:14 we are told to call “the elders of the church.” We can certainly pray by ourselves when we are facing trouble. This is what verse 13 tells us to do. But sometimes our problems are so great that we need the prayer support of others. The specific example James gives is that of illness. The fact that the elders must be called may indicate that the one who needs prayer is too sick to go to them. Verse 15 shows that prayer can make a difference in such circumstances. We pray for the sick because God is able to “raise them up.” James also says that God will forgive in response to prayer, indicating that sickness is sometimes a consequence of divine discipline. But his conditional language makes it clear that sickness is not always ...

1-30-23 Daily Prayer

Daily Prayer for January 30 CHRISTOPH FRIEDRICH BLUMHARDT Turn to me and be saved, all you ends of the earth; for I am God, and there is no other. By myself I have sworn, my mouth has uttered in all integrity a word that will not be revoked: Before me every knee will bow; by me every tongue will swear. Isaiah 45:22-23, NIV Lord God, we kneel before you and worship you, for you do mighty deeds in heaven and on earth and allow us to become your children and your servants. You have done great things for many people, enabling them to serve you, and you will do still more. For you have promised that all our paths will be made straight. You have promised that all we do may be a service to you through Jesus Christ, the Savior of the world, whom we follow. He will be revealed to the whole world, so that the nations will be called to serve you and your will may be done on earth as in heaven. Praised be your name, Lord our God! We open our hearts to you. In death and in life we are yours. Amen.

A Test of Faith THOMAS MERTON The ultimate thing is that we build community not on our love but on God’s love, because we do not really have that much love ourselves, and that is the real challenge of the religious life. It puts us in a position where sometimes natural community is very difficult. People are sent here and there, and often very incompatible people are thrown together. … It isn’t just a question of whether you are building community with people that you naturally like, it is also a question of building community with people that God has brought together. Community tests our faith.

How to Acquire Wisdom The immense rewards of wisdom make pursuing it well worth the effort. January 30, 2023 Proverbs 2:1-7 Knowledge may be a prized commodity in the world, but what the Lord values is wisdom (Prov. 8:11). He wants us to see life from His viewpoint and evaluate everything according to biblical principles. So how do we gain wisdom? The obvious answer is that we must pursue it. Too often, however, people who say they want to be wise do little to actually make that happen. The first place to look for wisdom is the Bible. There, we are told to pay attention to God’s life-giving words and hold His commands in our heart (Prov. 4:20-22). Another source of wisdom is the counsel of godly men and women (Prov. 12:15); God brings fellow believers into our life to offer biblical advice, encouragement, or reproof. In fact, according to that same verse, those who ignore the words of a righteous person are labeled “fool.” So surround yourself with other followers of Christ who pu...

1-30-23 Come Unto Christ

James 1:17 “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.” “It is not easy for us to recognize the love of Heavenly Father when we look around with our temporal eyes, because we see inconvenience, loss, burdens, or loneliness first. On the other hand, we can see the blessings beyond when we look up.” —Elder Yoon Hwan Choi

1-30-Are The Days of Noah Here?

Are The Days of Noah Here? :: By Nathele Graham Published on: January 28, 2023 by RR10 Category:General Articles, Nathele Graham “Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things” (2 Timothy 2:7). Science was, at one time, a highly respected profession. Today, it seems that the fine line between beneficial science and science fiction has faded. I was appalled a few years ago to read of mad scientists genetically tampering with spider DNA and that of goats to make the goat milk laden with extremely strong fibers. That sounded like a very bad idea, but it was touted as beneficial because the fibers could be used for bulletproof windows in banks and bulletproof vests. Mad scientists have genetically modified much of our food in order to “improve” it. Is it any wonder people have so many food allergies? These “scientists” have a way of always making these experiments sound beneficial, but it’s never beneficial to attempt to improve upon God’s creation. Actually, t...

1-30-23 History

History :: By Daymond Duck Published on: January 28, 2023 by RR10 Category:Daymond Duck, General Articles On Jan. 17, 2023, it was reported that one of the speakers (a historian) at the World Economic Forum (WEF) meeting in Davos this week said globalization (world government) is here to stay, and the notion of de-globalization is a mirage. Another speaker (the CEO of a German tech company) said the world is merely entering into the next phase of globalization. It is my understanding that the globalists are advancing globalism in phases or stages with a timeline that calls for the fundamental transformation of the world into a world government by 2030 or sooner. As far as globalization being here to stay is concerned, according to the Bible, God will allow the globalists to have their godless world government for seven years, and He will destroy it at the Second Coming of Jesus. The head of their world government (the Antichrist) and his godless assistant (the False Prophet) will b...

1-30-23 Happy Rebirthday!

Happy Rebirthday! :: By Terry James Published on: July 5, 2022 by Admin10 Category:General Articles, Terry James Cat Ballou, a 1965 movie, sparked my thinking on this commentary. Although I didn’t spend much time watching them, back when I could see to watch movies, it was one of my favorites. It is a Western comedy and rated as one of the best ever. I certainly agree in that it was hilarious throughout. Now some will probably castigate my thinking for finding Lee Marvin in the part of Kid Shelleen hilarious because the character is a drunken, over-the-hill-gunfighter. Nonetheless, I will use Shelleen, hopefully, to offer something of value in thinking on God’s great promise. Cat Ballou, as many will remember, is the sweet, easy-going young woman played by Jane Fonda. The character’s father has been shot and killed by a gunfighter, leaving poor Cat to fend for herself. So, she and several of her friends decide to hire a gunfighter to come and help her fend off the evil rich rancher...
