The Book of Isaiah: Seeing the Glory of God COMPLETELY NEW Tuesday, July 31, 2018 |  Isaiah 64–66 In  The Republic , Plato attempts to outline a Utopian society. The fifty-year education of the upper class would give the leaders the wisdom to eliminate poverty, live in a just society without lawyers, and rarely send people to war. The wise philosopher-kings would bring about a harmonious society free from the vices common to humankind. The true removal of vice and creation of a perfect society comes not from philosopher-kings but with the dawning of the New Jerusalem. Here, memories of the troubles of this life will not exist, rejoicing will have no end, and people will have length of days without fear of death. Work will not be futile, and threat of invasion will cease! The Lord Himself promises to answer a prayer before it is spoken. Even the animal kingdom will be in harmony. The magnitude of pain experienced by so many in this present world is great: legal inj...

7-31-18 Daily Devotion

July 31, 2018 Our Rich Home in God’s Grace Ephesians 1:11-14 Because of God’s grace, we are extremely wealthy people. No amount of earthly riches can compare. At salvation, God ... Freed us from sin’s power.  Although the flesh remains, it no longer rules over us. As new creations indwelt by God’s Spirit, we have His power to resist temptation and to obey. United us with our Savior.  Since the moment we first believed, we’ve been living in Christ and He’s been living in us. And we are sealed in Him by the Spirit. Made us part of God’s family.  God has become our Father, and we are His adopted sons and daughters. Our spiritual family extends all over the world. Translated us into the kingdom of light.  The kingdom of darkness, which includes this world and all its unsaved inhabitants, is under Satan’s rule. (See  Acts 26:18 .) When someone receives Jesus Christ as Savior, his or her home becomes the kingdom of light ( Col. 1:12-13 ). From then on...

7-31-18 Give Your Suitor Some Grace

JULY 28, 2015 Give Your Suitor Some Grace Article by  Liz Wann Regular contributor He wasn’t putting himself out there. His indirect attempts at prompting my admissions were not working. I stood firm and resolute. He kept prying. It was our third date, he was putting the feelers out, and I wasn’t having it. No way would I be the first one to jump in the water. I expected him to directly broach the topic of our relationship. I wanted him to tell me his feelings first and initiate an official relationship. Yet we were at a stalemate. The awkward silence swallowed our fun evening as it came to a close. When we parted ways, I became angry and began to doubt him. “Maybe he’s not the kind of guy I want?” “This isn’t going to work out.” “He’s not leading and initiating like he should.” My harsh judgments were growing like a hard shell around my heart, and I began rejecting him internally. I thought it would end before it had even begun. But a good friend interve...

7-31-18 How to Sabotage a Bible Study

JULY 30, 2018 How to Sabotage a Bible Study Article by  Greg Morse Content strategist, desiringGod.org My dear Globdrop, You “regret to inform me” that your patient’s small group has laid down their forks, spoons, and gossip (momentarily) and have begun to read the Enemy’s book more consistently. Before you knew it, they began to trade meal time for “Bible time” and this makes you quiver, does it? Nephew,  it was my suggestion . You seem to forget that we never fear a man just because he reads a Bible. Some of our most useful vermin, having dedicated their lives to it, are snuggly tenured in religious departments across the country. Remember, we do not mind the Bible hobbyist, the hypocrite, and the text-twister. All goes awry, however, when the humans understand the Enemy’s word, treasure it, believe it, obey it, and are led through it to him. Our war efforts are hindered not only by allowing real soldiers to wield his book but also by keeping the t...

7-31-18 Are We Inching Our Way Towards The Fulfillment of Zechariah 12?

Are we inching our way towards the fulfillment of Zechariah 12?  - Olivier Melnick -  http://www.newantisemitism.com/antisemitism/are-we-inching-our-way-towards-the-fulfillment-of-zechariah-12   Jerusalem has been at the very center of religious, historical and geopolitical tensions for a long time. With the recent move of the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, it seems that fuel has once again been added to the fire already consuming the Palestinians with humiliation, or so would the media like us to believe. Some countries have welcomed the US embassy move and some have even announced their subsequent moves in the next few weeks. Honduras, Paraguay, Guatemala, the Czech Republic and Romania have all announced their plans to move forward with a relocation. While much of the world sees this as a defiant move, Israel welcomes the decisions of the few international friends she has. There will be more.   The move of the US embassy, had it been in any othe...

7-31-18 Some Not So Subtle Sermon Suggestions

Some Not-So-Subtle Sermon Suggestions   - Steve Schmutzer -  http://www.omegaletter.com/articles/articles.asp?ArticleID=8652   According to a recent "Twitter survey," the average length of a sermon anymore is about 36 minutes. I said "average." That means roughly half of the sermons every Sunday are shorter than that. It's fast food for the frenzied flock.   I suppose I could be persuaded to accept those parameters more if those 36 minutes were filled with substance and pith. You know - the "chewy stuff." I need those elements that make me think, that convict me, that expand my view of God, that shake me to my core, that nourish my faith, that compel an honest look in the mirror, and that reinforce truth "I can hang my hat on."   I'm talking about meat!   Does anyone else see this situation the same way I do? I'm concerned that more congregants share my views than the average pastor or teacher.   In a curated an...
