8-31-21 Daily Prayer

Daily Prayer for August 31 Christoph Friedrich Blumhardt You should think of us as Christ's servants, who have been put in charge of God's secret truths. The one thing required of such a servant is that he be faithful to his master. 1 Corinthians 4:1–2, TEV Dear Father in heaven, open our hearts to see and feel how our lives have been blest. Open our hearts to your blessings so that we may look forward in thankfulness and joy to what lies ahead. Grant that we may be faithful to what we have received from you and never again lose ourselves in the passing moment. May we hold to all you have brought to our hearts from eternity, that your name may be honored and our lives shaped anew in Jesus Christ. Give us courage to overcome the evils in life and to look with joy and confident expectation to the future, when the powers of your kingdom will be ever more clearly revealed. Amen.

Your Enemy’s Heart Eberhard Arnold We know that we are surrounded by enemies of the Christian faith. In such times the sacrament of forgiveness is needed more than ever, for the enemy’s furious hatred challenges us to meet him with the opposite. Our enemies are the very ones we should love by having faith and understanding for them, knowing that in spite of their blindness they have a divine spark that needs to be fanned. Love for our enemies has to be so real that it reaches their hearts. For that is what love does. When that happens, we will find the hidden spark from God in the heart of even the greatest sinner. If Iraqi Christians can love and forgive after ISIS, can we?

8-31-21 Today in the Word

RETURN TO THE LORD My husband Peter agreed to hold down the fort for a few days, allowing me to retreat to a little cabin to finish this Today in the Word study. When he sent me a text message to check-in, I responded, “Hosea is hard.” This prophetic book can be difficult to interpret and a painful message to process. If you’ve hung in there this month, well done! Today’s passage is a bit of a “payoff” as it summarizes our month with the prophet. What can we take away from this book? First of all, Hosea forces us to face our sin— personal, corporate, and national. Chapter 14 starts with a final call to repentance (vv. 1–3). God still longed to give His people life, but for this to be possible, they needed to repent. Hosea instructed them to ask humbly for forgiveness and express their need for God’s grace (v. 2). Then Israel was to repent specifically of their sins—depending on other nations and worshiping other gods (v. 3). The prayer finishes with praise for the compassionate nature...

August 31, 2021 The Blessing of Grace Ephesians 2:4-10 Why did God save you? Was it because of His love for you, His mercy for your helpless condition, His desire to rescue you from hell, or His providential choice? All of these answers—along with many others—are correct. But do you know what God’s ultimate reason for salvation is? According to today’s passage, He saved us “so that in the ages to come He might show the boundless riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus” (Eph. 2:7). We are not the shining stars of salvation; God is. He saved us in order to display His grace, which is His undeserved favor toward us. God didn’t bestow grace on us at the moment of salvation, only to leave us on our own to live the Christian life as best we can. No, He lavishes it on us every day of our life. Through Scripture, His grace instructs us how to live righteously in this present age, and it empowers us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires (Titus 2:11-12). Once God extends ...

Rapture Ready End Times News 30 Aug 2021 Published on: August 30, 2021 by RRadmin7 Is Hurricane Ida divine retribution for Biden’s treatment of Israel? For thus said the lord of Hosts—He who sent me after glory—concerning the nations that have taken you as spoil: “Whoever touches you touches the pupil of his own eye. Zechariah 2:12 In February 2020, Israel365 News predicted that any attempts by a White House administration to institute an “anti-covenant” policy that divided the land of Israel would inevitably result in a natural catastrophe of historic proportions. That prediction came true this week as Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett met with President Biden for the first time and as Bennett flew home, Hurricane Ida made landfall. This prediction was not the result of prescience or prophecy but is simply the latest in a historical series so compelling that it verges on absolute certainty. After 2 landfalls at Category 4 strength, Ida plows inland Only two other hurricanes have...

8-30-21 Daily Prayer

Daily Prayer for August 30 Christoph Friedrich Blumhardt My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. John 10:27–28, NIV Dear Father in heaven, we thank you for moving our hearts so that we may know we are your children. Even in the midst of turmoil and evil, fear and pain, you bring us happiness; we can know that you are holding us with your right hand and will finally deliver us from all evil. Let your Spirit be at work everywhere. Give us patience when time is needed in our own hearts and in the hearts of all people, who also belong to you. Continue to strengthen us so that even the heaviest burden does not crush us and we may exult in hope because you right every wrong, to the glory of your name. Amen.

What We Owe Refugees Edmund Waldstein It is not acceptable for a wealthy country to frame immigration policy exclusively in terms of “what benefits us.” The wealth of the world has been given to the whole human race, and we owe the needy a share in it. Do those who have property beyond their needs owe it to those who are in need?

8-30-21 Today in the Word

I WILL REDEEM Throughout the centuries, death has been described in many ways. William Shakespeare imagined death as a tree on which only a few yellow leaves still hang—until they fall. Emily Dickinson personified death as a man in a carriage that comes for her. Alfred Lord Tennyson described death as a ship putting out to sea. Yesterday we read about the violent attacks of the lion, the leopard, and the bear as God unleashed His wrath upon the people (13:7–11). In today’s passage, Hosea described Israel’s resulting death with three more metaphors. First, Israel is described as a baby in the middle of the birthing process (v. 13). When the contractions come, this foolish baby does not enter the birth canal. Like this child, Israel unwisely held onto their sin and refused to choose life. In the second metaphor, Israel is described as a fertile land with wells of water and storehouses of food. Then, God sent a hot desert wind to dry everything up. The food was stolen, and the nation wa...

August 30, 2021 Dead Men Walking Ephesians 2:1-5 Zombie movies are science fiction, but did you know that, spiritually speaking, there actually are dead men and women walking around on earth? They look like everyone else, but deep down inside, their spirit is dead. Truth be known, everyone begins life as a spiritual “zombie.” Human beings are composed of a body by which they interact with the world around them, a soul with which they relate to themselves and others, and a spirit through which they can commune with God. If the spirit is dead in “trespasses and sins,” the person may still lead a successful earthly life, but he won’t be able to connect with God or make himself acceptable in the Lord’s sight. In that way, the dead can do nothing. It’s easy to imagine how this is true of someone who has given himself fully to debasing sin. But sadly, there are many moral church-going folks who are spiritually dead even though they are externally religious. However, the good news is that ...

8-30-21 God's Rescue Mission

Daily Devotion: God's Rescue Mission – Greg Laurie – www.harvest.org “For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.”—1 Corinthians 1:18 Before I was a Christian, I always had an interest in Jesus Christ. He fascinated me. I knew that He existed at one time, but I never thought of Him as someone that I could enter into a relationship with. I learned some things about Jesus by looking at religious art. For example, I learned that He often walked around carrying a lamb, and sometimes He carried a staff as well. But pretty much everything I learned about Jesus came from movies. However, there was a part of His story that I didn’t like: the ending. In fact, I wondered why no one had ever made a movie about Jesus that ended differently. I didn’t like the fact that He died on the cross. I wanted to edit out that part of the story. It made no sense to me at that time. And it wasn’t until I be...

8-29-21 Pfizer COVID Jab Approved by FDA

Daily Jot: Pfizer COVID Jab Approved by FDA - Bill Wilson – www.dailyjot.com The FDA approved the Pfizer COVID-19 jab for those 16 and older. Now to be known as Comirnaty, the FDA says the shot proved effective in a clinical trial of some 44,000 people. FDA’s acting commissioner Dr. Janet Woodcock, stated, “As the first FDA-approved COVID-19 vaccine, the public can be very confident that this vaccine meets the high standards for safety, effectiveness, and manufacturing quality the FDA requires of an approved product. While millions of people have already safely received COVID-19 vaccines, we recognize that for some, the FDA approval of a vaccine may now instill additional confidence to get vaccinated.” That confidence may signal mandates, according to the US Surgeon General. US Surgeon General Vivek Murthy told “Fox News Sunday” that moving the Pfizer vaccine from “emergency” to “full approval” would make mandates more appealing. He said there are universities and businesses that h...

8-28-21 Daily Prayer

Daily Prayer for August 28 Christoph Friedrich Blumhardt The Lord reigns, he is robed in majesty; the Lord is robed in majesty and armed with strength; indeed, the world is established, firm and secure. Psalm 93:1, NIV Lord our God, you are king, founding a kingdom that reaches to the ends of the earth, establishing it to endure forever. We thank you that we may be sheltered in your hands and that no sickness of body or soul can do us lasting harm. We thank you for lifting us again and again to true life with the light and power to overcome what is earthly, true life with the flexibility to remain trusting and confident no matter what happens, true life directed to the great goal of God's kingdom, promised to us in Jesus Christ. Amen.

Loved, Saved, Kept, and Known Amy Carmichael Many have forgotten that unofficial witness-bearing used to be the chief way by which the good news went around the world. I tell you, and you believe and receive and tell someone else, and he tells others. Frank, vital telling in ordinary language that the Lord Jesus Christ lives and loves, and can save and keep, and can be known like a real friend, and is a Master who gives real orders and strength to carry them out – think of the power that is in that! Can you wonder that the devil detests it? Source: Fragments That Remain

8-28-21 Today in the Word

FALLEN FROM GRACE The narrative is far too familiar. A preacher grows a church and gains a following. He writes books, hosts a radio show, and accepts speaking engagements followed by large crowds. The global Church adores him, and he starts to believe his own press. He is blessed with money and fame and begins to build an idol of his own image. Unfortunately, it is often only a matter of time before that pride leads to a fall. Character cracks? Financial mismanagement? An extramarital affair? People weren’t created to be venerated. The human heart can’t handle it. In today’s passage, Hosea told the narrative of Israel’s fall from grace. He started by remembering their past. They were once a powerful and prosperous nation, feared and revered by their neighbors (13:1). Commentators believe this refers to the time of Jeroboam II when Israel had a large army and enjoyed a comfortable existence—but in spite of this, or perhaps in part because of it, Israel turned away from God. They comb...

August 28, 2021 The Father’s Resources Luke 11:1-13 When you were a child, where did you go when you needed a snack, a bike repair, comfort for a skinned knee, or a referee for a dispute with a sibling? More than likely, you sought out your mom or dad or a trusted guardian, because God gave them the responsibility of caring for your needs. But no human can parent perfectly, as all mankind is affected by brokenness. However, if you have trusted in Jesus Christ as your Savior, then you are a child of God. So when you pray, you’re bringing whatever’s on your mind to the heavenly Father, who always gives what it right and best. How much do you truly rely on God for all your needs? When you are feeling lonely, rejected, or discouraged, is your first response to read His Word and pour out your heart to Him? Instead of worrying about financial struggles, do you ask for Jehovah Jirah (the God who provides) to give what you need? (See Gen. 22:14.) If you’re suffering from a health problem, d...

8-28-21 That Time Is Here

That Time Is Here - By Dennis Huebshman - https://www.raptureready.com/2021/08/21/that-time-is-here-by-dennis-huebshman/ From 2 Timothy 4:3-4; “For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears, they will accumulate teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths.” (all emphasis mine) “Religion” is thriving, and some mega-churches are filled to capacity during regular “services.” The biggest issue is that true Bible teaching is getting hard to find. For some of these churches, the Sunday after the Rapture will not see any change in attendance. They’ll still be putting on light shows, have heart-thumping music, and be giving “ear-tickling” messages for those itching ears. However, Jesus will be conveniently left out. The newer generation doesn’t want to be told they are sinners in need of a Savior but that their earthly lifestyle is just fine. The one to three hours a week “Chris...

8-28-21 It’s Time to Step Up

Daily Devotion: It’s Time to Step Up - by Greg Laurie – www.harevst.org And you must commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these commands that I am giving you today. —Deuteronomy 6:6 https://harvest.org/resources/devotion/its-time-to-step-up/ - Listen There are many people today trying to figure out how to fix our country. They have various ideas about how to deal with all the problems we’re facing as a nation. But something that no one seems to be talking about is at the root of everything: the breakdown of the family. Studies have shown that you can take almost every social ill in America today and trace it directly to the breakdown of the family—and specifically to the absence of fathers. When the family is strong, the church is strong. And when the church is strong, the nation is strong. But when the family breaks down, the nation breaks down with it. I believe there’s a full-throated, all-out attack on the family in our nation today. It’s time for moms and dads to be the...

The Wind, the Earthquake, the Fire, & a Gentle Whisper :: By Zachary Everett Published on: August 15, 2021 by RRadmin7 Category:General Articles The days are rough and broken; we can see that across the world. Evil grows, and nature continues to become more extreme and intense as each day passes. Lies and deceit are continuing with no end. For those who follow the Lord Jesus Christ, it is difficult and sometimes unbearable. The words of the Lord thy God come to mind when hard times fall on us: “I am with you always, even unto the end of the world” (Mathew 28:20). But I wish to speak of another verse that many may have forgotten when adversity arises. I will speak about something the Lord told us through his intervention with Elijah in 1st Kings. We are all facing problems today, but let us not forget that so too did the heroes and apostles of old face problems that tested their resolve. Elijah was one such person. Even after witnessing God’s Power with his own eyes, fear took him...

8-27-21 Should Christians Leave the Cities?

Should Christians Leave the Cities? This is a difficult subject to write about because the scriptures seem to make the answer clear, and we all know intuitively the answer but expressing it in these times without sounding like an alarmist is not easy. It is not the intent of this email to cause any alarm but share what we already know and are supported by the Scriptures in these last days. The Scriptures provide sincere advice about this topic but is not a requirement. The problem with cities: Today, all the larger cities have morally decayed and any Christian living within them will be tempted to sin more than those that live outside them. Christ has warned us about today, calling us the Laodicean, or the lukewarm church, in which the majority of Christians do not follow Christ. This is not allowed and even those “Christians” will be spued out of His mouth (Rev 3:16). This is the result of “the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of ...

Working at Home, Again C. R. Wiley Working from home comes pretty naturally. Some complain about being around their kids all day: I can’t help but infer that they either don’t like their kids much or don’t know how to control them. But for the rest of us being around the kids all day feels pretty natural too. Working productively from home was so common in the old days that they had a name for it – economy, from the Greek word for “household management.” If that’s news to you it is because the workplace moved out of the house during the Industrial Revolution. It moved to the factory, or the mine, and later, the office. It’s how we’ve worked for the last century-plus that’s unnatural.

8-27-21 Daily Prayer

Daily Prayer for August 27 Christoph Friedrich Blumhardt Hear my voice when I call, O Lord; be merciful to me and answer me. My heart says of you, "Seek his face!" Your face, Lord, I will seek. Do not hide your face from me. Psalm 27:7–9a, NIV We thank you, dear Father in heaven, that you let the light from your face shine into our hearts. Look upon our time, we pray, with your clear, penetrating eyes, and let all people sense that they are watched over by more than they are able to see. Let them realize that a strong God and Father is watching over them. Protect us on our way, and let your light shine ever more brightly, so that in all we do your name is glorified. Amen.

THE FUTILITY OF WEALTH In 1954, a college drop-out took a mail-room job at Philipp Brothers trading firm. For the next 19 years, Marc Rich climbed the ranks, eventually launching his own very successful firm. By 1982 he was worth $200 million. But his dishonest practices caught up with him, and a series of criminal charges landed Rich on the FBI’s Most Wanted List. Clearly, acquiring great wealth doesn’t guarantee a happy life. In today’s passage, the theme of deceit continued, but with a more particular audience. Hosea called out the wealthy Israelite merchants, who would rig their weights in order to cheat their customers. Not only did they work dishonestly, but they loved doing so (v. 7). The act of stealing brought them pleasure. It was comfortable and familiar. But even worse, these immoral merchants boasted that they were above the law. They saw nothing wrong with their actions, and they trusted their fortune to protect them. Notice the prideful boasting of Ephraim: “With all m...

August 27, 2021 Evaluating Your Faith Mark 11:20-24 It’s a good idea to pause every now and then to evaluate our spiritual development. Although we will experience different phases of faith throughout life, our goal should be to continue growing. Which phase sounds like you? Hesitant faith is characterized by struggling to believe God: We hope He’ll answer our prayer, but we’re just not sure. Sometimes doubts creep in because we’re looking at the situation, not at the Lord and His Word. Or maybe our problem is that we just don’t know what God has said in the Bible, so we have no real anchor. Courageous faith involves stretching to believe the Lord more and more. Christians in this phase take steps to follow God and discover He is faithful to His Word. Perfect faith is characterized by resting in the Lord, with confidence in Him and a heart aligned with His will. We are thankful as we watch His promises become a reality. Though we hope to practice this kind of faith every day, we w...

8-27-21 We Are Witnessing Incompetence On A Colossal Scale Throughout Our Society

We Are Witnessing Incompetence On A Colossal Scale Throughout Our Society - by Michael Snyder - http://theeconomiccollapseblog.com/we-are-witnessing-incompetence-on-a-colossal-scale-throughout-our-society/ These days, it is a surprise when someone actually does something competently. It is often said that if you want something done right you have got to do it yourself, and today that is more true than ever. Just think about it. How often have you had a delivery delayed or messed up? How often have you had someone supposedly “fix” something but it isn’t actually fixed? How often have you purchased something that breaks shortly thereafter? And don’t even get me started on the complete and utter incompetence that we see in the tech industry. How hard could it possibly be to release a piece of software that is not riddled with all sorts of nightmarish bugs that need to be “patched” as soon as possible? Sadly, in our upside down society some of the most incompetent people that you can i...
