8-31-19 Daily Dig

Image
Daily Dig for August 31 Eberhard Arnold We know that we are surrounded by enemies of the Christian faith. In such times the sacrament of forgiveness is needed more than ever, for the enemy’s furious hatred challenges us to meet him with the opposite. Our enemies are the very ones we should love by having faith and understanding for them, knowing that in spite of their blindness they have a divine spark that needs to be fanned. Love for our enemies has to be so real that it reaches their hearts. For that is what love does. When that happens, we will find the hidden spark from God in the heart of even the greatest sinner. 8-31-19 Today in the Word

Servant Discipleship: The Gospel of Mark THE EMPTY TOMB Saturday, August 31, 2019 |  Mark 16:1-8 Mark’s Gospel account ends on an odd note. In many Bibles, verses 9–20 contain a commentator’s note about the disputed authenticity of the closing section of the book. Many Bible scholars say that the earliest manuscripts of the Gospel do not contain this ending. Equally odd is the description in verses 1 to 8: the reaction of the three women at the tomb of Jesus. They are there, having overcome obstacles to get to Jesus, including awaiting the Sabbath to finish, the sun to rise, and having the stone rolled away. Yet, they are described as “alarmed” by the appearance of the angel at the tomb (v. 5). Moreover, after multiple reassurances that the crucified Jesus is alive, this account says that they leave fearful and even more —“bewildered” (v. 8). In the conclusion of Mark’s Gospel, despite the assurances to tell Peter and the disciples about the resurrection and the promise from J...

8-31-19 Daily Devotion

August 31, 2019 Make the Most of Your Time Ephesians 5:1-17 Time is a precious commodity. You can’t earn more of it or reuse it. Once it’s spent, it’s gone forever. That’s why no amount of money, possessions, or success can equal its value. What’s more, we have no control over the length of time we’ll be allotted in this life. God alone is sovereign over the number of our days ( Ps. 139:16 ). If you want to know your true value system, simply look at how you spend your time. For the committed follower of Jesus, activities and pursuits will reflect a life lived for Him. What, then, is required to live wisely? 1. Realize that without Christ, you have no inheritance in God’s kingdom.  The Savior offered Himself as a sacrifice to God so that all who believe in Him could be forgiven and receive eternal life. Without salvation, all of your time is wasted. 2. As God’s beloved child, imitate Him.  Do this by walking in love, turning from sin, and trying to learn what is...

8-31-19 Apologetics and Atheism

Daily Jot: Apologetics and atheism - Bill Wilson - www.dailyjot.com   My son Christian and I have been having an ongoing discussion about witnessing to atheists. He feels called to apologetics so we have been talking a lot about Christ's Great Commission found in Matthew 28:19-20, "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you" and in Mark 16:13, "Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature." Christian believes that we have to equip ourselves to witness even to those who refuse to believe so we might fully exercise the Great Commission. In other words, be ready in season and out to make the case for Christ.   We have these deep talks about just how far one can go with someone who refuses to believe. Christian, who recently finished law school, witnesses to several people who w...

8-31-19 Countdown to Messiah

Purim Supermoon: Countdown to Messiah - By Adam Eliyahu -  www.breakingisraelnews.com   Before the great and terrible day of Hashem comes, I will set portents in the sky and on earth: Blood and fire and pillars of smoke; The sun shall turn into darkness And the moon into blood. But everyone who invokes the name of Hashem shall escape; for there shall be a remnant on Mount Tzion and in Yerushalayim, as Hashem promised. Anyone who invokes Hashem will be among the survivors. Joel 3:3-5 (The Israel Bible™)   After reading the Book of Esther for the holiday of Purim on Wednesday evening, Jews leaving the synagogue will be greeted by the sight of a supermoon overhead, a phenomenon to which some rabbinic experts ascribe great import.   A supermoon occurs when the full moon coincides with the perigee - the closest that the Moon comes to the Earth in its elliptic orbit - resulting in a larger-than-usual apparent size of the lunar disk as viewed fro...

8-31-19 Modern Monetary Theory

Nearing Midnight: Modern Monetary Theory - Todd Strandberg -  https://www.raptureready.com/category/nearing-midnight/   During the past several years, the Federal Reserve has been managing our growing national debt by using a series of financial terms. The shell game started with the Fed taking on the role of our rich uncle and did Quantitative Easing. The Fed reinflated the stock market by loaning the Treasury $3.5 trillion.   Then came Operation Twist in 2011 where the Fed sold short-term Treasury securities and bought long-term Treasuries. By selling a two-year bond and buying a 30-year bond, the Fed was giving Washington 28 years to balance its financial books.   Next came Quantitative Tightening where the Fed would sell off the bond it had on its balance sheet. When Wall Street had a negative reaction to the actual unloading of bonds, the Fed said our credit is so good, it would end the program and hold onto the bonds forever. ...
