Egypt and Saudi Arabia Reportedly Pressuring Abbas to Embrace Trump’s ‘Deal of the Century’
Senior sources in Ramallah on Saturday told the newspaper Al-Quds that two Arab countries, whose names were not mentioned explicitly, are exerting heavy pressure on Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas and on King Abdullah II of Jordan, to accept the “deal of the century” – the peace initiative expected to be suggested by President Donald Trump.

A Southern California town council rebelled Monday night and voted to reject the state’s sanctuary law. Los Alamitos’ adopted ordinance claims the new state law “may be in direct conflict with federal laws and the Constitution.” The council, therefore, “finds that it is impossible to honor our oath to support and defend the Constitution of the United States,” if they do not opt out of it.
Turkey’s Erdogan criticizes US over Syrian Kurds
Erdogan has called on the United States to “show respect” and “walk with” its NATO ally. His remarks are the latest criticism by the Turkish leader of Washington over its engagement with Syrian Kurdish militia. Erdogan’s comments on Tuesday came in reply to statements from the U.S. State Department expressing concern over Turkey’s cross-border offensive in the northwestern Syrian enclave of Afrin, which Turkish troops and allied Syrian forces captured from the Syrian Kurdish militia on Sunday.

Chinese President Xi Jinping has delivered a fervently nationalistic closing speech to parliament, painting China as the rising global power. Mr Xi said “achieving total unity” was the “collective hope of all Chinese people” and any attempts to divide it were “doomed to fail”. The speech was a strong warning against any attempt at separatism from places like Taiwan and Hong Kong.
French police hold ex-president Sarkozy over ‘Gaddafi funding’
Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy has been taken into police custody for questioning over allegations that he received campaign funding from the late Libyan leader Col Muammar Gaddafi. Police are investigating alleged irregularities over the financing of his 2007 presidential campaign. Police have questioned him previously as part of the probe. Mr Sarkozy has denied any wrongdoing.
Syria war: Air strike ‘kills children in Eastern Ghouta school’
An air strike has reportedly killed 15 children and two women sheltering in a school basement in Syria’s besieged rebel-held Eastern Ghouta region. Rescuers said they had been hiding below ground to escape government and Russian raids on the town of Arbin. More than 1,400 civilians are believed to have been killed since government forces stepped up an offensive on the enclave outside Damascus a month ago.
Texas explosions: FBI investigating new blast at FedEx plant
US authorities suspect that a parcel bomb that exploded at a FedEx depot in Texas on Tuesday is connected to a serial bomber in the state. The incident occurred in the early hours in Schertz, 65 miles (104km) south of Austin, where four bombs have killed two people in recent weeks. No injuries have been reported in the Schertz blast.
Uber halts self-driving car tests after death
Uber said it is suspending self-driving car tests in all North American cities after a fatal accident. A 49-year-old woman was hit by a car and killed as she crossed the street in Tempe, Arizona. While self-driving cars have been involved in multiple accidents, it is thought to be the first time an autonomous car has been involved in a fatal collision.
Raleigh police are asking Google to provide user data for all people near crime scenes
Police in Raleigh, North Carolina, have presented Google with warrants to obtain data from mobile phones from not just specific suspects who were in a crime scene area, but from the mobile phones of all people in the area… The request will trouble Fourth Amendment advocates as it could be seen that police are carrying out unreasonable searches on people who just happened to be in the area at the time the crimes were committed.
Teen suicide is soaring. 
…The suicide rate for white children and teens between 10 and 17 was up 70% between 2006 and 2016, the latest data analysis available from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Although black children and teens kill themselves less often than white youth do, the rate of increase was higher — 77%. A study of pediatric hospitals released last May found admissions of patients ages 5 to 17 for suicidal thoughts and actions more than doubled from 2008 to 2015.

US Air Force to begin fighter-mounted laser testing this summer
The US Air Force will this summer begin testing a laser that will be mounted on an F-15 warplane, an official said Monday. The Pentagon last year awarded a $26 million contract to Lockheed Martin for a laser program called SHiELD (Self-protect High Energy Laser Demonstrator.) The idea is to put a laser system on aircraft with an output of about 50 kilowatts to test their ability to zap drones or cruise missiles.
