Commander of Iranian-backed Iraqi militia seen on Lebanese-Israeli border
Qais al-Khazaali, the commander of Iraq’s Iranian-backed Asaib Ahl al-Haq militia, has been filmed in South Lebanon overlooking the northern Israeli towns of Metulla and Kiryat Shemona. “We here with Hezbollah declare our total readiness to stand together with the Lebanese people and the Palestinian cause against Israeli occupation,” al-Khazaali is heard saying in a video.

Israel says it has targeted sites in Gaza belonging to militant group Hamas in retaliation for rocket strikes. Israel’s military said it hit weapons sites early on Saturday. Two people were killed, a Gaza hospital said, bringing the deaths in Israeli strikes and gunfire over the past day to four. Three rockets were fired at Israel from Gaza late on Friday.

Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi told a conference in Baghdad that Iraqi troops were now in complete control of the Iraqi-Syrian border. The border zone contained the last few areas IS held, following its loss of the town of Rawa in November. The Iraqi announcement comes two days after the Russian military declared it had accomplished its mission of defeating IS in neighbouring Syria.

The U.S. economy added 228,000 jobs in November, exceeding economist expectations of 200,000 jobs. Unemployment held steady at 4.1 percent. Despite the strong job growth, inflations data was tepid. Earnings rose just 0.2 percent, less than the 0.3 percent expected. On an annualized basis, wage were up 2.5 percent compared with economist expectations of 2.7 percent.
