Russia’s Vladimir Putin says ISIS has seized 700 hostages in Syria
Speaking in the Black Sea resort city of Sochi, Mr Putin said the hostages included several US and European nationals, adding that ISIS was expanding its control in territory on the left bank of the River Euphrates controlled by US and US-backed forces. “They have issued ultimatums, specific demands and warned that if these ultimatums are not met, they will execute 10 people every day. The day before yesterday, they executed 10 people,” Mr Putin told the Valdai discussion forum in Sochi.
US To Impose Further Sanctions On Iran, Aim To Oust It From Syria
Short of a full-blown military plan, the strategy would stress political and diplomatic efforts to oust Iran out of Syria by weakening it economically. It would pause reconstruction assistance from areas where Iranian and Russian forces are present, three people familiar with the plan told the media outlet. An example of such an area is Aleppo, a rebel stronghold until the Syrian regime won it back in 2016. Additionally, the United States would impose sanctions on Russian and Iranian firms working on reconstruction in Syria.
Security Cabinet Green Lights IDF Stepping Up Reprisal Attacks for Gaza Terrorism
Housing Minister Yoav Galant warned that the rules of engagement with Hamas and Gazan terrorism are about to change. The former head of IDF Southern Command, who sits on the Security Cabinet, told Channel Two that although he could not speak about “the content of the cabinet discussions… I can say one thing very explicitly – the rules of the game are about to change. “We will no longer accept the arson terror and the border terror,” he warned. According to various reports, the Security Cabinet instructed the IDF to gradually implement a zero tolerance policy, beginning with Friday’s expected weekly mass demonstration on the border.
Report: Russia transferred highly-advanced S-300 system to Syria
According to the report, in addition to the “classic” S-300 anti-aircraft systems transferred to Syria, Russia has also moved three S-300PM-2 systems into the country. These systems, the report said, differ from the classic model in that they possess more advanced radars and target identification abilities, as well as a mobile command center. The systems can also reportedly intercept the most advanced fighter jets and medium-range ballistic missiles of up to 155 miles, and are capable of defeating electronic warfare systems.
ICE’s most wanted fugitive captured in Louisiana
A Mexican national and convicted child sex offender was arrested Wednesday morning at his Louisiana home by a division of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency, a Department of Justice press release said. Jose Melchor Martinez, 48, was arrested in his Church Point home by an Enforcement and Removal Operations team, which is a component of ICE. He is one of ICE’s most wanted fugitives, according to the release.
