Chicago's Cdl. Blase Cupich lost all credibility in August when he openly denied the homosexual nature of clerical sex abuse and went on to cite reports that actually proved the opposite.
Asked by America magazine Aug. 7 if ordaining gay men was the problem, the archbishop of Chicago questioned the acceptance of that conclusion, saying such claims were purportedly refuted by the 2011 report conducted by the John Jay College of Criminal Justice (JJCCJ). This report solicited by U.S. bishops referenced by Cdl. Cupich, however, proves just the opposite.
The initial JJCCJ report released in 2004 by the U.S. Bishops' National Review Board, which was commissioned by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops to research the child sex abuse crisis in America, showed that "eighty percent of the alleged victims were male, and nearly 90 percent were post-pubescent."
The updated 2011 report to which Cupich refers similarly found that "81 percent of sex abuse victims were boys, and 78 percent were post-pubescent." What's more, the U.S. bishops' annual reporting on clerical sex abuse released in 2016 and 2017 both continued to show that the clerical sex abuse crisis was predominantly homosexual in nature.
Two weeks after Cupich floated this untruth, Abp. Carlo Maria Viganò addressed it in his public testimony on Aug. 22:
"Regarding Cupich, one cannot fail to note his ostentatious arrogance, and the insolence with which he denies the evidence that is now obvious to all: that 80% of the abuses found were committed against young adults by homosexuals who were in a relationship of authority over their victims."
Cupich understandably would deny that homosexual priests were to blame for the sex abuse crisis as his appointment to Chicago was engineered by the homosexual predator, ex-Cdl. Theodore McCarrick, as well as by other homosexualist prelates including the former archbishop of Washington, D.C., Cdl. Donald Wuerl. In his report, Viganò affirmed that Cupich would never have been elevated to Chicago without their hidden machinations.
"The appointments of Blase Cupich to Chicago and Joseph W. Tobin to Newark," said Viganò, "were orchestrated by McCarrick, Maradiaga and Wuerl, united by a wicked pact of abuses by the first, and at least of cover-up of abuses by the other two. Their names were not among those presented by the Nunciature for Chicago and Newark."
