IAF officer presented assessment of military actions in Gaza 
A message was released by the Deputy Commander of squadron “Knights of the Double Tail” on Friday morning. Major C reviewed the events of the recent military activity between Israel and the Gaza Strip. “In the past 24 hours,” he stated, “the Air Force attacked over 150 substantial targets along the Strip, including weapons storage, military compounds, training compounds, a building used by Hamas for military purposes, and terror cells.”
Taliban attack strategic Afghan city of Ghazni
The Taliban have launched a major night-time assault on the Afghan city of Ghazni, a provincial capital on the key highway between Kabul and Kandahar. The militants took control of parts of the city before being pushed back to the outskirts, officials said. Thirty Taliban fighters and one Afghan security forces’ member were killed, according to the provincial government.
China mosque demolition sparks stand-off in Ningxia
Hundreds of Muslims in western China are engaged in a standoff with authorities to prevent their mosque from being demolished. Officials said the newly completed Weizhou Grand Mosque in Ningxia had not been given proper building permits. But worshippers refused to back down – one resident said they “won’t let the government touch the mosque”.
France floods: 1,600 evacuated, German missing at campsite
Heavy floods have forced the evacuation of 1,600 people – most of them campers – in southern France, officials say. They say a 70-year-old German man who was helping to supervise children at one of the summer camps is missing. The worst-hit areas are Gard, Ardeche and Drome. More than 400 firefighters and police – as well as four helicopters – have been deployed.
Homeless people wearing barcodes to accept cashless payments 
Homeless people are wearing barcodes around their necks in an attempt to increase donations in a cashless society, under an Oxford University backed initiative. A new social innovation project, called Greater Change, hands homeless people a QR code, similar to the kind issued for online tickets. Passersby who wish to give money – but who may not have any change in their pocket – can scan the code using their smart phone, and make an online payment to the person.
Brazil slams Venezuela as measles spreads across border
Brazil complained on Thursday that Venezuela was doing nothing to stop the spread of an outbreak of measles in Brazil and other neighboring countries that has been sparked by an exodus of Venezuelans fleeing economic collapse. Since February, four people – three of them Venezuelan – have died of measles in the remote Brazilian border state of Roraima where health authorities have confirmed 281 cases of the disease, mostly among children.
Turkish Lira Tumbles as Investors Panic Before Erdogan Address
Turkey edged closer yet to a full-blown financial meltdown. Ahead of a much-anticipated public address by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the lira plunged more than 11 percent to a fresh record, headed for its worst week since 2001. Speaking outside a mosque earlier today, Erdogan told followers “Don’t forget this: if they have got dollars, we have got our people, our right, our Allah,” according to state media.
As Trump cracks down on Pakistan, U.S. cuts military training programs
President Donald Trump’s administration has quietly started cutting scores of Pakistani officers from coveted training and educational programs that have been a hallmark of bilateral military relations for more than a decade, U.S. officials say. The move, which has not been previously reported, is one of the first known impacts from Trump’s decision this year to suspend U.S. security assistance to Pakistan to compel it to crack down on Islamic militants.
